"To speak of the great power of Christ and the gospel as being able to redeem and change the hearts of the hardest of sinners, to speak of the radical nature in which Christ has restored relationships, to call others to embrace Christ as the great Reconciler to God, and yet, at the same time, to remain indifferent or opposed to racial harmony is a great hypocrisy and contradiction of the gospel."
On Friday, November 11 (7PM- 9PM) and Saturday, November 12 (9 AM- 11 AM), we will be hosting the seminar, “The Gospel and Racial Harmony” led by Dr. Sherard Burns.
Dr. Burns is the author of the book Christ Above Culture, and the chapter entitled "Trusting the Theology of a Slaveowner" in the book A God Entranced Vision of All Things: The Legacy of Jonathan Edwards edited by John Piper and Justin Taylor. Burns is also the senior pastor of Renewing Life Church in Miami, FL, a member of the Florida Baptist Convention of the SBC.
Burns notes: “The Gospel and Racial Harmony will equip Christians to view racial division and its solution from a gospel-centered perspective. Christians understand that the problem of division exists but too often seek to make sense of it through the lenses of secular thinking. This seminar will not only inform Christians of the challenges that confront us but will offer a gospel-centered method for living above the tension for the glory of God. This seminar is for everyone.”
He will hold an additional session for church leaders following the morning session and we would invite the church leadership of our local churches to stay for lunch for that portion of the event. Please let us know if you will be able to join us so we can adequately plan.
This event is free, and all are welcome.
